Karl Wenzel (1887 -1947)

Karl Wenzel was born in Ibbenb?ren (Germany) on the 27th of Febbraury 1887, died on the 27 September 1947.
He was one of the most important painters of the Kevelaer group.

Between 1885 and 1940 Kevelaer, a place of pilgrimage in the lower Rhineland, was one of the most important centres of religious art in Germany. Hundreds of painters, sculptors, glass painters, goldsmiths and embroiderers lived and worked in the town, many of them achieved national and international reputation.

He obtained the Honor Price in the San Francisco International Exposition in 1939 and the Honor Price in the Washington Panamerican Exposition in 1940. His paintings are visible in the main museums in Argentina.

In 1911 entered the Federico Ragazzini's design and painting academy, then was a student in the National Academy of Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires.

He participated in the Society "Estimulos de Bella Artes" with teachers such as De la Carcova e Collivadino.

He was teacher in many schools. He obtained many national prices; and had many personal expositions. Apart from being a painter, he worked as designer in many Argentinean art magazines. He painted all the themes from the portrait to the still life.
His works are in the Museum of Art Pedro Mendoza, in the Municipal Museum of Junin and in the Military School of Generale San Martin.

Argentinian painter. Served his apprenticeship with Francisco Rossi in Chacabuco and improved his experience in Buenos Aires with the masters Poletti and Cartier.
Finally he moved to ROME where he attended the course of painting and fresco. He had many personal exposition in Rome and in other Italian towns. His works of art are in the Argentinian museums (Tandil, La Plata, Santa Rosa, La Pampa, San Juan and in the Barrio de la Boca in Buenos Aires).
He won the Argentinian national price in the exposition of the year 1951, 1952 and 1959. He painted landscapes, especially in the highlands region of Tandil (Argentina)
